Knee and hip replacement — EU-standard surgery in weeks, not years on an NHS list.
NHS waits for hip and knee replacement remain measured in years in much of the UK, and private costs begin at £14,000–£16,000 for a single joint. Partner hospitals abroad perform the same operations with the same implant manufacturers (Zimmer Biomet, Stryker, Smith & Nephew, DePuy Synthes) at 40–60% below UK private pricing, typically with longer inpatient stays and more structured in-house physiotherapy than UK private norms. Procedure selection matters: total knee replacement remains the standard for widespread arthritis, while partial (unicompartmental) knee replacement is a less invasive option for patients with disease confined to one compartment and gives faster recovery. Total hip replacement via a direct anterior or posterior approach is highly reproducible; hip resurfacing is a specialist option for younger, active male patients. Several partner hospitals offer robot-assisted or patient-specific instrumentation. Fly-home timing is clinically important — most patients are cleared 7–10 days post-op with compression stockings and prophylactic anticoagulation to manage VTE risk, upgraded seating where indicated, and a complete discharge summary for the UK GP and continuing physiotherapist.
